【注】唐人街的中华公所(Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association)成立于1883年，被视为台湾在纽约城最具历史性的社区组织，旗下至少有诸如商务会、餐馆会、民众会、同盟会、同乡会、宗亲会、佛教堂、神学会等60个大大小小的团体盘踞在方圆仅有几里地的中国城腹地，倾尽全力为其海外华侨提供社会服务。
今早初来乍到，我站在二楼办公室外透过门窗向内张望，里面正襟危坐的工作人员见状热心招呼我，而我也不再客气地走了进去，说明来意后便开始在三丈见方的大厅里四处转悠。
“你是报社记者？”负责接待的女士按耐不住好奇心。
“不，顺道兜个圈。”我没想把自己当外人。
“第一次从宾州？”招呼进门的当班满脸疑惑。
“没，卅年前串过门。”我拉开话匣子。
“那时大陆人登宝岛，”负责接待的女士被勾起了回忆。
“先来这儿打卡！”
