可能是我不怎么了解美国的缘故吧。
不过，我个人观点，未来的党派之争应该还是左右之争而非族裔之争，放到全球角度来看，是意识形态之争。
昨天跟一个加拿大本地女人聊天。一般来说，加拿大人不太聊政治，不知为何才几句话她就开始聊政治了，她说：“My husband’s American, and he’s honestly quite embarrassed and upset by what Trump’s been doing lately.”
我愣了一下，因为我的观点与她不太相同，不太好接话，过了片刻，我说：“Yeah… well, one of the things about living in a democracy is that leadership changes—every four or five years, people get to vote again. Worst case, eight years max. It’s not like in China, where a leader can basically stay in power indefinitely and do whatever they want… and let’s be honest, a lot of the time it’s not really in the people’s best interest.”
她点头，说：
“Yeah, that’s true.”
我先不接她的话而聊制度，不评价川普的好与坏，意思在于川普再不咋样，反正四年之后他就离职了，民主制度再坏都坏不到哪里去。接着，我补充说：
“Look, I’m not saying I’m a fan of Trump, but I kinda get where he’s coming from. For years, a lot of Western countries have had pretty soft leadership, and meanwhile China’s been pushing its influence around the world, almost unchecked. They’ve been taking advantage of the U.S., and even Canada, Australia, Europe. And when Trump pushed back with tariffs, people freaked out, but those weren’t aimed at the whole world—they were mainly targeting China and the countries acting as its proxies.
The way I see it, we can’t always vote for the perfect leader—no one’s perfect—but sometimes we need someone who’s willing to take on the tough issues of that particular time.”
她说：
“Yeah, that makes sense.”
真的，我极少跟加拿大本地人聊政治。可能的原因是，政治是一个敏感话题，另一方面的原因，可能加拿大人并不认为来自中国的人懂得加拿大政治。
我后来还跟她聊了一些政党轮替之类的东西，因为我是个标准的政党轮替派人物，我不认为西方国家应该永远由一个政党执政，虽然我的立场中间偏右。我说，保持平衡才是永恒之道。
