The largest population of non-native palms in L.A. are the Mexican fan palms that were imported from Mexico in 1930.
By the 1932 Olympic Games, over 40,000 Mexican fan palms had been planted as part of a $100,000 city-wide beautification project. The project employed over 400 workers from an unemployment relief program and resulted in around 150 miles’ worth of palm-lined boulevards. At the time, the trees cost only $3.60 a piece.
Los Angeles has an average of 263 sunny days per year. The city has a distinct rainy season in the winter, with the wettest month being February, which averages five days of rain. The cloudiest months are typically November, December, and January.
What city has the highest population of pets and pet owners? According to 2020 data, the results are as follows: 1) Seattle, WA - 246.67 dogs per 1,000 residents; 2) Miami, FL - 187.66 dogs per 1,000 residents; 3)San Francisco, CA - 139.87 dogs per 1,000 residents; 4) Los Angeles, CA - 91.92 dogs per 1,000 residents; and 5)New York, NY - 71.97 dogs per 1,000 residents。
