3.5.6 行宫 Migration Palace

弟弟尘凡，又名卢堂右，在这时约14岁。大禹推荐的建筑公司经理来了之后，他就成为了这家公司的会计，兼职出纳员和材料保管员。他每天跟着公司经理学习建筑学和建筑施工。哥哥尘香，又名卢堂左，这时约17岁。他负责办理公司的对外业务和采购工作。这时他每天都按照公司经理的吩咐办理建筑公司资格认证。偶尔地，他们俩轮流到舜禹行宫院外的树上数进入顺皇（又名夏娃，小龙女，女，女娲，顺皇）寝宫的人数。

The younger brother, Dust-mortal, also known as Hall-Right Lu, was about 14 years old at this time. When the manager of the construction company recommended by White-King Yu arrived, he became the accountant, cashier and materials keeper for this company. He studied architecture and building construction with the company manager every day. The older brother, Dust-scent, also known as Hall-Left Lu, was about 17 years old at this time. He was responsible for handling the company's external business and purchasing. At this time, he did what the company manager told him to do every day to qualify as a construction company. Occasionally, the two of them took turns counting the number of people who entered the chambers of Emperor Shun (a.k.a. Eve, Little Dragoness, Woman, Nuwa, White-King Shun) in the trees outside the courtyard of Migration Palace of Shun and Yu.

一天，他们发现记录的数据又出现了大的数字300，还看见一队重甲铁骑兵从行宫外直接跑进了行宫东面的房间。他俩就开始连续观察了。数据显示：30；70；300；50；40；60；80；120；200；300；（400）；（500）；（600）；（700）。

One day, they found that the recorded data had a large number of 300 and saw a group of heavily armored cavalrymen running directly from outside the palace into the room on the east side of the palace. They began to observe continuously. The data showed: 30; 70; 300; 50; 40; 60; 80; 120; 200; 300; (400); (500); (600); (700).

有700人进入顺皇寝宫的第二天早晨，士兵来招呼尘香和尘凡说，顺皇要离开了。这哥俩看着顺皇上马车，与平时一样，精神抖擞。他们俩心想：这怎么可能啊！这几天，她每天都工作到后半夜两点钟，怎么还这么精神？

The morning after 700 people entered Emperor Shun's chambers, soldiers came to summon Dust-scent and Dust-mortal saying that Emperor Shun is leaving. These two brothers watched Emperor Shun get into her carriage, as refreshed as usual. The two of them thought to themselves, “How is this possible! In the past a few days, she had worked until two o'clock in the middle of the night every day, how could she still be so energetic?

2 汉窑 Han Kiln

尘凡莫名其妙地叨咕：“白数了这么多天，什么也没查出来！你查出来她在寝室干什么了吗？”

尘香回答：“我查出来很多信息，但是我琢磨不明白。怕影响你学习，我就没跟你说。现在我来告诉你。他们说顺皇来这里是为了烧窑，说她工作勤奋，每天都烧到半夜。我已经调查了两遍了，咱这地区一个陶窑也没有。也就是说，她每天晚上在她的寝室里烧窑。这么长的时间了，我也没看见她干过什么别的事。还有，他们说咱住的这个汉窑总共有300个 ‘汉殃子’（即汉，汉神，汉人的种苗）。”

Dust-mortal inexplicably chattered, “After counting all these days for nothing, I haven't found out anything! Did you find out what she was doing in her bedroom?”

Dust-scent replied, “I found out a lot of information, but I couldn't figure it out. For fear of affecting your studies, I didn't tell you. Now I'll tell you. They said that Emperor Shun came here to burn the kiln (as in Figure 3.6.4-38) and that she worked hard and burned until midnight every day. I have investigated this twice, and there is not a single pottery kiln in our area. In other words, she fired the kiln every night in her bedroom. I haven't seen her doing anything else for such a long time. Also, they say that this Han kiln where we live has a total of 300 'Han Misfortune Boys' (i.e.., Han, Han Gods, Han Seedlings).”

尘凡问：“那昨晚上另外那400人是什么人？”

尘香回答：“那400人是从别的汉窑来的。他们说，在武汉市的周围有20多个这样的汉窑。每个窑里有约200至300个汉。”

尘凡叨咕：“也就是说，这个女人跟一般人不一样！她烧窑的事肯定与咱爸爸（牛郎）的死因有关系。那这些 ‘汉殃子’ 是从哪里来的？”

Dust-mortal asked, “Then what were those other 400 people last night?”

Dust-scent replied, “Those 400 people came from other Han Kilns. They said that there are more than 20 such Han Kilns around the city of Wuhan. There is about 200 to 300 Han in each kiln.”

Dust-mortal chattered, “That means this woman is different from the average person! Her burning of the kiln must have something to do with the death of our father (Cowboy). Then where did these 'Han Misfortune Boys' come from?”

尘香回答：“这些汉是从全国各地选出来的。到这里之后，他们就跟着那女人走。走到一个被称作断桥的地方。桥头有个像是商店的房子，有人喊，‘女人来了！’ 商店里就有人回答，‘女娲来了！’ 女人进去说几句话后，带领人们走到断桥的另一端。这样走过断桥的人就都变成汉人了。”

尘凡惊讶地回答：“哎呀！咱俩都跟着那女人走过断桥六七次了。这么说，咱俩现在也已经是汉人了！”

Dust-scent replied, “These Han were chosen from all over the country. After arriving here, they followed the woman. They walked to a place known as the Broken Bridge (Figure 36, aka. Sky Bridge, Non-Alternative Bridge, and Philosopher-Stone Bridge). At the end of the bridge there was a house that looked like a store, and someone shouted, 'Woman is coming!' Someone in the store then replies, 'Nuwa is here!' The woman goes in and says a few words and then leads the people to the other end of the broken bridge. In this way everyone who walks across the broken bridge becomes a Han Chinese.”

Dust-mortal replied in surprise, “Oops! We have followed that woman across the Broken Bridge six or seven times. In that case, we are now Han Chinese too!”

尘香调侃地说：“不管你愿不愿意听，你以后别再说 ‘汉猪’ 了，整地我现在一听见 ‘杀猪刀’就害怕！”

尘凡气愤地叨咕：“那女人事先也没跟咱俩商量啊！我一点感觉都没有，不是汉人！”

尘香回答：“我有感觉，每晚都站在树杈上数数，被那女人烧糊涂了！什么也没琢磨出来！不过，我有了一个新计划！”

Dust-scent said flirtatiously, “Whether you want to hear it or not, don't say ‘Han Pig’ anymore, I'm scared when I hear ‘pig-killing knife’ now!”

Dust-mortal angrily muttered, “That woman didn't discuss it with us beforehand! I don't have any feelings at all, not being a Han!”

Dust-scent replied, “I had feelings, I stood on the branches of a tree every night and counted and was burned out by that woman! Didn't figure anything out! But I have a new plan!”

3. 行宫的结构 Structure of the Migration Palace

尘香继续说：“我在向建筑设计院询问他们是否有通风系统的设计经验时，他们给我看了十个他们做过的设计。我很快就发现了这座行宫的一份原设计草图。这栋房子的开间很大。北边有一个贯通东西的走廊。女王卧室的西侧是待客室。待客室的西面是四个洗浴室。这四个洗浴室就位于雷峰塔的底座。雷峰塔是个很高的旱烟囱。烟囱，生火不生火都会向上抽风，就会抽走浴室，厨房，和卧室里的潮气。在宫殿的后院中央有两个进气口。进气通道在进入宫殿后，有一个斜着向上的抗风通道直通雷峰塔。如果我们从行宫北面的山里凿一个洞到进气通道，就可以顺着进气通道爬进雷峰塔。然后，从雷峰塔的排气通道进入到待客室和顺皇卧室天棚上面的空间。这样我们就可以从排气孔看白娘子和许仙唱戏了！”

Dust-scent continued, “When I asked the architectural institute if they had any experience in designing ventilation systems, they showed me ten designs they had done. I quickly found one of the original design sketches for this Migration Palace. The Palace had a large opening. There is a corridor running east and west on the north side. To the west of the Queen's bedroom is the waiting room. To the west of the waiting room were four bathrooms. These four bathrooms are located at the base of the Leifeng Pagoda. Leifeng Pagoda is a very tall dry chimney. The chimney, with or without fire, draws wind upward, which draws out moisture from the bathrooms, kitchen, and bedrooms. There are two air intakes in the center of the backyard of palace. The air intake channels have a diagonal upward wind-resistant passage leading straight to the Leifeng Pagoda after entering the palace. If we cut a hole from the mountain to the north of the palace to the air intake passage, we can climb into the Leifeng Pagoda along the air intake passage. Then, from the exhaust passage of the Leifeng Pagoda, we can enter the space above the canopies of waiting room and Emperor Shun's bedroom. That way we can watch the “White Snake Wife” and “Permissions-for Gods” singing through the exhaust passage!”

尘凡气愤地说：“那么多人买票进去看《白蛇传》！为什么咱俩要挖洞才能进去？”

尘香气愤地回答：“我就是这么说！即便有人卖这票，咱俩也不能买票进去！”

尘凡叨咕：“挖三百米长的山洞，再穿透防盗墙，我们俩得干四个月！没有别的办法了吗？”

尘香回答：“如果我们走天窗被发现了，就被射死了。挖地道就得这么挖！”

尘凡回答：“我同意！”

Dust-mortal said angrily: "So many people bought tickets to watch the Legend of the White Snake! Why do we have to dig a hole to get in?"

Dust-scent replied angrily: "That's what I said! Even if someone sells the ticket, we can't buy the ticket to get in!"

Dust-mortal muttered: "It will take us four months to dig a 300-meter-long cave and penetrate the anti-theft wall! Is there no other way?"

Dust-scent replied: "If we go through the skylight and get caught, we will be shot to death. This is how you dig a tunnel!"

Dust-mortal replied: "I agree!"

4. 尘香中标了Dust-scent Has Been Awarded the Contract

顺皇离开后不久，尘香就接到了县里发来的舜禹行宫改造工程投标邀请。公司经理就根据发下来的招标文件写出了预算项目清单，交给尘香和尘凡看。这哥俩看不懂，就同意了。尘香就把预算项目的清单交给了做预算的公司。公司经理看过预算公司做的预算后，什么也没说，就签字了。

Shortly after Emperor Shun left, Dust-scent received an invitation from the county to bid for the renovation of the Shun Yu Migration Palace. The company manager wrote out a list of budget items based on the bidding documents and gave it to Dust-scent and Dust-mortal to read. The two brothers couldn't understand it, so they agreed. Dust-scent gave the list of budget items to the company that made the budget. After the company manager looked at the budget made by the budget company, he signed it without saying anything.

在开标的前一天晚上，公司经理拿出了一份文档，说那是大禹被捕前留给他的，是以前舜禹行宫竣工验收的备用档案，交代他俩明天带着这文件去参加开标会。这哥俩打开一看，乐了，发现里面有一份由大禹和这位公司经理做的地质勘查报告。报告中大禹在这块地上均匀分布式地挖过40个深坑。尘凡对哥哥说： “我看这份文件对咱俩挖洞有用，明天开标用不着。但我觉得还是把它备份下来，以免明天这些文件都被没收了。”

尘香回答：“那我把雷峰塔地基的施工验收报告抄下来吧！”

The night before the bid opening, the company manager took out a document and said that it was left to him by Big Yu before he was arrested. It was a backup file for the completion acceptance of the Shun Yu Migration Palace. He told them to bring this document to the bid opening meeting tomorrow. The two brothers opened it and were delighted to find a geological survey report made by Big Yu and the company manager. The report showed that Big Yu had dug 40 deep pits evenly distributed on the land. Dust-mortal said to his brother: "I think this document is useful for us to dig holes, it is not needed for the bid opening tomorrow. But I think it is better to back it up in case all these documents are confiscated tomorrow."

Dust-scent replied: "Then I will copy down the construction acceptance report of the Leifeng Pagoda foundation!"

第二天开标会上，宣布报价时，尘香的报价低，排在了第三位。招标方要求尘凡补充说明几项工程没做预算的原因。尘香就把他公司经理提供的材料交给招标商。

一段时间后，县政府通知尘香，他的公司中标了。

At the bid opening meeting the next day, when the bids were announced, Dust-scent's bid was low and ranked third. The tenderer asked Dust-mortal to explain why several projects were not budgeted. Dust-scent handed the materials provided by his company manager to the tenderer.

After a while, the county government notified Dust-scent that his company had won the bid.
