Pearl Harbor: an ideological attack

Japan was not ignorant of America's geopolitical superiority. Still, the Pearl Harbor attack took place on that fatal Sunday, December 7, 1941.

Was it meant to shock America into "a peace settlement" that would let Japan have the Pacific Ocean? Positive.

But what if America bounced back and launched a counter-attack? Of course, Japan would not have dismissed this probability, arrogant as Japanese militarists were.

Indeed, Japan knew that it was biting off much more than it could chew. It forged ahead with its war plan anyway.

Why?

Because Japan was on an ideological mission. It truly believed that it was destined for stopping Americanization of the East.

Japan ended up under American occupation in 1945. Yet, it has set a precedent for jihadists. On September 11, 2001, New York City became a Pearl Harbor.

To different degrees and on different levels, the anti-Western states and non-states are waging ideological wars against America and its allies.

Remember Pearl Harbor.
